Bringing 3rd Precinct back into the 3rd Precinct

On April 15, 2019, the Notre Dame Cathedral, built in the 12th century, burned down. Paris rebuilt it, and it reopened 1,915 days later.

On May 28, 2020, the Minneapolis Third Precinct burned down. As of March 1, 2,106 days have passed and it has not been reopened, with no indication of when reopening might occur.

So….we have already taken 10% more days than it took Paris to complete one of the largest reconstruction projects in world history. They have something to show for it: a restored Cathedral. What do we have to show for our 2,106 days since the fire? Nothing.

Sure, all of our city leaders have been preoccupied these last three months. ICE is mostly gone now, and we know that recovery from the effects will take months and even years. But the task of managing the city well remains and goes on day by day.

Let’s get a Third Precinct opening day announced soon. How about July 1, 2026?

  1. In my opinion, there is no more important thing for Frey, Barnette, and O’Hara to get accomplished, then to get the 3rd Precinct Police Station into 2633 Minnehaha Ave by fall.

Quite sad to remember that the 3rd Precinct was set to go into this SAME bldg, 2633 Minnehaha, and as EARLY as late 2020/ early 2021, with the lease to possibly extend into 2024.

Then THAT group, supported by folks like CM Wonsley, got busy fast and attempted to intimidate, by making threats while committing crimes against the property owner and that family. Those tactics worked… so no 3rd Precinct Police Station within the area, and for years.
