Over the past month David Schultz, our Editor-In-Chief sat down with 3 of the 4 leading candidates for Mayor. The fourth, Omar Fateh, did not respond to multiple requests. Learn more about the candidates in a relaxed, conversational setting:
Jacob Frey is a candidate for mayor of Minneapolis. He is also currently the two-term incumbent mayor. Originally from Virginia, he previously served as a Minneapolis City council member and worked as a civil rights attorney. He lives in Minneapolis with his wife and children.
On October 10, 2025, Schultz sat down with Jacob to discuss why he is running for a third term as mayor, what he hopes to accomplish if re-elected, and what he sees as the city’s greatest strengths and most pressing challenges.
Jazz Hampton is a candidate for mayor of Minneapolis. A lifelong resident of the city, he attended local schools before earning his undergraduate degree at the University of St. Thomas, where he later completed his law degree. After practicing law for several years, Jazz left the profession to start his own company. He also teaches finance at the University of St. Thomas.
He and his wife live in Minneapolis, where their three children attend Minneapolis Public Schools. On September 14, 2025, Schultz sat down with Jazz to discuss why he is running for mayor, what he hopes to accomplish if elected, and what he sees as the city’s greatest strengths and most pressing challenges.
DeWayne Davis is a candidate for mayor of Minneapolis. He was born in Mississippi delta as the fifteenth child of sharecroppers. Prior to moving to the Twin Cities he worked in Washington, DC, serving as aides to several members of Congress. Most recently he was the Lead Minister at Plymouth Congregational Church, leaving that position in June 2025, and he lives in Minneapolis with his husband and their dog.
On September 4, 2025, Schultz interviewed Rev. Dr. Davis about why he is is running for mayor, discussing his priorities and goals if elected mayor.

State Senator Omar Fateh is running for Mayor. He represents District 62, which includes parts of southwest Minneapolis in Hennepin County. Fateh is the first Somali American and Muslim to serve in the Minnesota Senate. We made 2 requests to Fateh’s campaign, but did not receive a response.

Fateh refusing this interview indicates he is not interested in representing/appealing to everybody in Minneapolis. Just his base DSA voters.
