  1. I have thoughts about Cashman’s closing statement. She thinks Berlin’s mass transit is a model for Minneapolis. Does she realize she is a council member for the city of Minneapolis, not the Twin Cities metro region? Berlin is six to seven times larger in land area than Minneapolis, which spans about 54 square miles. Berlin’s population is more than eight times larger than Minneapolis’s. The population of Berlin accounts for about 60% of its metro area, while Minneapolis accounts for roughly 11% of our metro area. I’m tired of Minneapolis being ground zero for these trendy activist issues. People like Cashman, who are self-proclaimed transportation activists, would do well to focus their activism on our first-ring neighboring cities that don’t even have sidewalks. Minneapolis is already a strong U.S. model for multimodal transportation.

    • In one sentence you tell Cashman to focus on minneapolis and not the twin cities metro region. And in the next you tell her to focus on first ring suburbs and their sidewalks? Square that circle for me.

Also expanding public transit is a necessity, especially for climate change. Why fight it so much?

    • Cashman sounds good, doesn’t she? Too bad she doesn’t back that up. I have not been happy with her representation, her youthful arrogance not yet having been tempered with the fire of experience. This city needs better than the performative politics we’ve been subject to. Common sense and experience have been lacking on our City Council: we desperately need to restore some.
